THE PERFECT RAGLAN DAY!
Obviously, the perfect Raglan day involves Raglan Rock, that’s without saying! Whether it be Canyoning, Rock Climbing or Caving, a perfect day in Whaingaroa involves an adventure, no? Did you know of all the other amazing things you can do here though? If not, then read on!
Let’s start early! Wake up, the sun will be shining, the Tuis singing, and lines rolling in on the points! If you’re not a surfer, then now is a perfect time to go for a beautiful morning stroll on the Ngarunui beach. The morning is best time to go, as at this point the sand will still be cool, come midday the sun will have heated that black stuff right up and you’ll skipping your way to the cooler wet sand! Unlike many beaches in the world, our sand here is black, all thanks to our beautiful Maunga, Karioi! The black sand backdropping onto the beautiful green bush on Karioi makes it a stunning spot to stretch those muscles and get ready for an incredible Raglan Day!
Now, if you’re anything like us then grabbing that morning coffee or hot choc is a ritual! Luckily for us, we are spoilt here for good coffee here! From Raglan Roast to Morning Glory, both these homegrown roasters know exactly how to make the perfect blend, and luckily there are some amazing baristas to complement it! One key thing here is to remember your keep cup! Did you know Raglan is plastic free?! Now you do, if you can avoid using a takeaway cup, then please do! Let’s all work together and look after Papatuanuku!
Foodies, rejoice! It’s time for brunch! Again, (we’re not boasting now, promise) we are so lucky to have such incredible food choices here in Raglan! Whether you fancy a bite in town, or perhaps something a little closer to the beach, there’s a heap of amazing venues to head too. With cabinet food, freshly prepared salads or a cooked feed the options are endless! For a sit down brunch, then the Shack or Rock It are our go too’s currently! However if you want a nice big cooked breakfast, then look no further than Orca! Maybe you just want a snack though? If so, then grab a freshly pizza slice from Raglan West’s food department!
Once we’ve filled ourselves up with some beautiful food, it’s time relax, or burn it off, depending who you are… If it’s relax, then maybe head out to Whale or Manu bay, and lie on the grass while admiring the surfers. If it’s low tide then head down to the rocks and explore the pools, you’ll be amazed at what you can find sometimes, starfish, crabs, surfboard fins! If you’re the type of person that likes to burn off your food, then head to Waireinga (Bridal Veil) Falls! These amazing 55m falls appear out of now where, after an easy 10 minute stroll from the car. The backdrop of native bush, and the force of all that water falling below is just stunning, and for those that want to, you can walk all the way down to the bottom!
Whether the afternoon was spent sunbathing or waterfall hunting, you’ll definitely be ready for an evening meal! Question is… where to go? Feel like a sharing type of feed? Then head down to Good George’s beach club, for a wide range of finger licking sharing food, as well as wood fired pizzas. Not only is there food good, the beers, ciders and atmosphere are epic too! If you’re wanting just some good hearty food though, then go check out the Harbour view hotel!
There you go! Things to see, places to eat and coffee to drink! Go get some Raglan guys!
