“Some would see the 550km (8 hour) one way bus trip to Raglan as an excuse not to go on the Raglan trip. However 54 Y11 students saw this as a minor inconvenience when reviewing the activities that were on offer. Rock climbing, abseiling, canyoning and caving were all highly anticipated and really pushed many students to the limits of their endurance. The exceptional staff at Raglan rock coordinated a week of activities that was challenging and allowed students to learn new skills. Students making their own tarpaulin tents and sleeping overnight in the bush created its own outcry when curious possums came to visit at 2am to the surprise and bewilderment of some students. It was certainly a trip to remember.”

“Raglan Rock have provided Fairfield College staff and students with many uplifting, challenging and exciting memories for the past 4 years. Gareth, Harry and their amazing staff have guided our groups in a range of outdoor activities, in which they tailor the experience to the ability of students. They understand how to work with schools to figure out the best pitch of difficulty and have always accommodated our needs. When it comes to working with schools, Raglan Rock definitely go the extra mile for you to get the best experience possible.
One area that I have really found unique about Raglan Rock is also their encouragement to upskill my staff. They have strong values in sharing knowledge and allowing staff to feel they can also develop as educators. We have completed many professional development days with Raglan Rock, including NZIOA qualification preparation training. Raglan Rock have a holistic approach when working with groups and everyone leaves knowing they have had a good time, challenged themselves, and left a better person for the experience. We always look forward to the next mission with Raglan Rock.”

“Gareth and his Team have been a valuable source of knowledge and help with course delivery this year and have supported our programs through quality delivery of resources and content for both the Certificate and Diploma in Outdoor Adventure Education.
Specifically, Raglan Rock was tasked with delivering content and assessment material for the new Certificate and Diploma Rock Climbing programs. Time was spent cross checking work and ensuring that the standard across the papers was consistent, and in line with the current industry best practice.
As head of Outdoor Education, I oversea the WTA Level 2 Outdoor Experience which Raglan Rock has also been delivering on. The local tourism knowledge and resources given to our WTA Students from Raglan Rock has been outstanding. Allowing them to firstly be introduced to Adventure Tourism in the classroom, then head into the field with the same company to experience the Canyoning Trip on Mt Karioi firsthand. Then head out Rock Climbing with the same guides and instructors.
Gareth and his Team provide valuable peer feedback regularly to all our Outdoor Education
Team. They make sure we as an Outdoor Education provider reflect on our current practises and that we strive for current best practice in all that we do.
Raglan Rock has also put considerable time and effort into professional development this year.
Ensuring staff are qualified in the NZOIA Rock Awards Scheme, which has added value to the level of Staff overall competency and delivery.”
