Come And Learn In The Great Outdoors!
Outdoor education in the Waikato is what we do best! Based in the beautiful seaside town of Raglan, all our adventure activities offer diverse and exciting experiences for all your students. We thrive on getting children into nature and see daily the positive effect school camps and outdoor education has on youth.
School Camps!
Want to remove the stress of organising your school camp? Have one of the team at Raglan Rock Adventure Co organise your entire camp! With a variety of accommodation and catering options, our team will specifically tailor all camps to suit your school’s needs. Being a local adventure operator, we know the best spots, and we’re proud to say we work with some of the best camp accommodation and catering providers the Waikato has to offer.
Activities
Where to begin? How about in a waterfall?! We’re fortunate enough to have our very own Karioi Canyon located right here in Raglan! Abseil, climb, and scramble your way down an ancient lava flow, whilst learning all about the native bush, and fauna you’ll be immersed in.
Just down the road from the canyon is our very own private bush block, where we run, Archery, Orienteering, Tree Climbing and Bush Survival! (Bush camping available for students 12+). Learn to light fires, build your very own bivouac, navigate using a compass and map, or perhaps how to weave harakeke!
Only a short distance from Hamilton and Raglan, is Stone Valley! This incredible location hosts all four rock adventures: Rock Climbing, Abseiling, Bouldering and Caving! A perfect site for large groups with all activities being located within a short walk of each other!
Only a 20-minute drive from Hamilton CBD or State Highway 1 is our newest climbing area, The Rock Garden! This beautiful space has amazing Rock Climbing, Horse Trekking, and Camping!
Unit Standards and Credits
If your school has consent to assess, our qualified instructors are able assess unit, and achievement standards and credits for your students! Alternatively, we are able to set up an MOU to enable our team to help assess the relevant activities. We currently work with a variety of schools from all over the North Island and help facilitate, assess and teach a wide variety of outdoor education standards.

Scots College

“Some would see the 550km (8 hour) one way bus trip to Raglan as an excuse not to go on the Raglan trip. However 54 Y11 students saw this as a minor inconvenience when reviewing the activities that were on offer. Rock climbing, abseiling, canyoning and caving were all highly anticipated and really pushed many students to the limits of their endurance. The exceptional staff at Raglan rock coordinated a week of activities that was challenging and allowed students to learn new skills. Students making their own tarpaulin tents and sleeping overnight in the bush created its own outcry when curious possums came to visit at 2am to the surprise and bewilderment of some students. It was certainly a trip to remember.”

“Raglan Rock have provided Fairfield College staff and students with many uplifting, challenging and exciting memories for the past 4 years. Gareth, Harry and their amazing staff have guided our groups in a range of outdoor activities, in which they tailor the experience to the ability of students. They understand how to work with schools to figure out the best pitch of difficulty and have always accommodated our needs. When it comes to working with schools, Raglan Rock definitely go the extra mile for you to get the best experience possible.
One area that I have really found unique about Raglan Rock is also their encouragement to upskill my staff. They have strong values in sharing knowledge and allowing staff to feel they can also develop as educators. We have completed many professional development days with Raglan Rock, including NZIOA qualification preparation training. Raglan Rock have a holistic approach when working with groups and everyone leaves knowing they have had a good time, challenged themselves, and left a better person for the experience. We always look forward to the next mission with Raglan Rock.”

“Gareth and his Team have been a valuable source of knowledge and help with course delivery this year and have supported our programs through quality delivery of resources and content for both the Certificate and Diploma in Outdoor Adventure Education.
Specifically, Raglan Rock was tasked with delivering content and assessment material for the new Certificate and Diploma Rock Climbing programs. Time was spent cross checking work and ensuring that the standard across the papers was consistent, and in line with the current industry best practice.
As head of Outdoor Education, I oversea the WTA Level 2 Outdoor Experience which Raglan Rock has also been delivering on. The local tourism knowledge and resources given to our WTA Students from Raglan Rock has been outstanding. Allowing them to firstly be introduced to Adventure Tourism in the classroom, then head into the field with the same company to experience the Canyoning Trip on Mt Karioi firsthand. Then head out Rock Climbing with the same guides and instructors.
Gareth and his Team provide valuable peer feedback regularly to all our Outdoor Education
Team. They make sure we as an Outdoor Education provider reflect on our current practises and that we strive for current best practice in all that we do.
Raglan Rock has also put considerable time and effort into professional development this year.
Ensuring staff are qualified in the NZOIA Rock Awards Scheme, which has added value to the level of Staff overall competency and delivery.”

“For the past 10 years I have had a working relationship with Raglan Rock. Initially as a classroom teacher running class trips for primary aged students and recently over the last three years as HOD of the Raglan Area School Outdoor Education Programme. We also work with Raglan Rock to deliver an after school Climbing Club for local students. Raglan Rock has and continues to be a great business to work with. They have great communication from the booking and planning stages, during the trip, right through to after the trip including a post trip review. I have been impressed with their safety management processes and industry knowledge. Raglan Rock demonstrates transparency and openness with the school ensuring that both parties have a clear understanding of who is responsible for what and how activities are run. I highly recommend Raglan Rock as a company to work with.”
