Karioi Glowworm Canyoning
A Nighttime Nature Experience Like No Other
Experience the magic of Karioi Canyon after dark on a unique adventure combining waterfall abseiling, twilight canyoning and the enchanting glow of native New Zealand glowworms.
As daylight fades, gear up in our warm 5mm canyoning suits and venture into the ancient volcanic stream beneath Mt Karioi. Abseil cascading waterfalls, scramble over volcanic rock and climb your way through the canyon, with your head torch lighting the way as night falls around you.
As darkness deepens, discover glowworms illuminating the surrounding canyon in a spectacular natural display. Along the way, your experienced guide will share insights into the area’s geology, ecology and Māori history, helping you connect with this remarkable landscape.
Take a moment to slow down and enjoy a hot cup of kawakawa tea, made from a native plant traditionally used in rongoā Māori, before continuing your nighttime adventure.
